This is exactly how a round feels — tap an answer for the same instant, kind feedback a child gets. Try a wrong one on purpose: it explains why that answer felt right, not just what the right one was.

Questions parents ask

Good questions, straight answers.

Is AcornSmarts really free?

Yes — Math & Reading for one child are free, with find-my-level placement, cloud save and the weekly parent digest; no account is needed to start, and it works offline. Paid plans add Science, Social Studies, Word Power and Writing, the parent dashboard and printable reports, more children, and the High School stage.

Is my child's data safe?

Built with COPPA & FERPA in mind. The app has no ads, no trackers and no data sales, and it works with no account at all. It sends no child data off the device unless you use cloud sync, your child joins a class with a class code, or your child uses Writing Coach; it also checks once per launch whether Writing Coach is available, and that check carries no child data. Read-aloud and voice answers use your browser's own voice services, which some browsers run online. No child's full name is needed to use the app; the name box asks for a nickname or first name. Every outside service we use is listed in our privacy evidence pack.

Does it replace school or my child's regular program?

No — it complements i-Ready, IXL, Lexia and the rest. It owns the part they leave open: getting kids to actually practice, at home, all year.

What ages and grades is it for?

Pre-K and kindergarten readiness through grade 8, across six subjects (math through grade 8; reading and writing through grade 6; Word Power, science and social studies through grade 5), with skills that level up as your child grows — and the High School tier adds grades 9–12 as courses: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and English I–IV, with EOC and SAT readiness meters.

Is any of this AI-generated?

No. Nothing your child reads in the app is AI-generated at runtime. Every question, hint, and step-by-step explanation was authored under human direction and human-reviewed — in English and Spanish — and a machine independently re-derives thousands of computed math answers from scratch before each release (zero errors, or it doesn't ship). There is no chatbot. An AI model (Anthropic's Claude) is used in one place: the Writing Coach check. It scores what your child wrote — Writing Coach answers and, in grades 6–12, short written math explanations — and picks from our fixed set of pre-written coaching lines, so your child never sees text the model wrote. AcornSmarts does not store the answer; Anthropic deletes API data within 30 days under its published policy (longer only if its safety systems flag a request or the law requires). The same check can flag an answer that seems to share private details or real-life distress; a note with your child's words then stays on your device for the parent dashboard. Most skills also align to the grade-level standards your state publishes — 97 of our 104 in Kansas, 98 in Missouri, with the full crosswalks published — that's what keeps practice compatible with what your child learns in class. Spot an error? Tell us in ten seconds — or email info@acornsmarts.com. We answer within 1 business day.

What happens to my kid's progress if I cancel?

It stays. Progress lives on your device first (if you use cloud sync, our server keeps a copy), so cancelling never deletes anything — paid features simply close (extra subjects, the Family Almanac) and everything is waiting the moment you return, with Math & Reading still open on Free. Cancelling itself is one tap in the secure billing portal; the price and billing cycle are shown on the secure Stripe checkout before you pay, and monthly and yearly plans renew automatically until you cancel. You'll also get an email receipt for every charge and a reminder email before an annual plan renews — each with a link to manage your subscription, one tap to the same portal that cancels.

Is it available in Spanish?

Yes, from Pre-K through grade 12 — natively bilingual, not a translation bolted on: the questions, hints, and step-by-step explanations are authored in both English and Spanish. In High School, the skill names and descriptions are in English; the questions, reading passages and essay prompts are in Spanish. And it goes further: the “Leer Sílabas” track teaches a child to read IN Spanish by the método silábico — direct, inverse, and blend syllables, then words and decodable stories — the way Spanish literacy is actually taught, not translated English phonics.

Does it help with homeschool record-keeping?

Yes — one tap in the Family Almanac prints a homeschool record from the practice history kept on your own device: an attendance calendar, a day-by-day instruction log, subject coverage, and a work-samples portfolio, with a parent signature line. It's honest by design: AcornSmarts is supplemental practice, and the export supports your portfolio or log — it isn't a legal filing, so check your state's requirements.

How much screen time is this?

It's built for short, focused sessions — ten minutes a day beats an hour on Sunday. Kids set their own weekly goal, and there's no endless feed or membership nag. And Real-World Quests send them OFF the screen — challenges they complete out in the real world and check off with you. An optional Done for Today target ends the session with a smile — a closing ritual and one real-world mission — and gently rests practice until tomorrow (grown-ups can always unlock more).
