Read-aloud and voice answers use your browser's own voice services, which some browsers run online. We never ask for a child's full name; the name box asks for a nickname or first name. Every question, hint, and step-by-step explanation was authored under human direction and human-reviewed — in English and Spanish — and a machine independently re-verifies every computable math answer before each release (13,460 answers, zero errors). There is no chatbot. An AI model (Anthropic's Claude) is used in one place: the Writing Coach check. It scores what your child wrote — Writing Coach answers and, in grades 6–12, short written math explanations — and picks from our fixed set of pre-written coaching lines, so your child never sees text the model wrote. AcornSmarts does not store the answer; Anthropic deletes API data within 30 days under its published policy (longer only if its safety systems flag a request or the law requires). The same check can flag an answer that seems to share private details or real-life distress; a note with your child's words then stays on your device for the parent dashboard. Most skills also align to the grade-level standards your state publishes — 72 of our 104 in Kansas, 71 in Missouri, with the full crosswalks published — that's what keeps practice compatible with what your child learns in class. Yes, through grade 8 — natively bilingual, not a translation bolted on: the questions, hints, and step-by-step explanations are authored in both English and Spanish. The High School courses (grades 9–12) are in English. And it goes further: the “Leer Sílabas” track teaches a child to read IN Spanish by the método silábico — direct, inverse, and blend syllables, then words and decodable stories — the way Spanish literacy is actually taught, not translated English phonics.
